We are very lucky to have three different waders who come here to nest in the spring.
Oyster catchers, curlews and lapwings all arrive late winter in anticipation of finding a prime nesting spot. Despite the bad press farmers and gamekeepers often get, we do our upmost to avoid nests. They are however, not the most successful breeders. Mainly due to predation from other birds and ground vermin such as stoats and foxes which we do our best to control. We work round these wonderful birds often putting markers out at nests to prevent them getting accidentally run over. We have been lucky enough this year to have spotted a couple of successful hatches.
