Lapwing denotes its wavering flight, whilst the name Peewit is given to imitate the display call. These birds love farmland especially arable and permanently unimproved pasture which is why they can be found at Glenkilrie.
RSPB states Lapwings are now a red list species, as numbers are declining so fast. We have ourselves seen a decline at Glenkilrie over the years, however, we do still have a few successful broods every year.
