Calving is finished, Lambing is finished. Yahoo!
This month on the farm we started to see the first of our red deer calves. The hinds hide their calves at birth for the first few weeks, until they are strong enough to run away from any predators, which is their natural built-in instinct. Lucky for our ladies they don’t have any predators and we are seeing calves between 1-2 weeks old.
Our herbal ley and grass reseeds are starting to come up through the ground. Just a little bit more sunshine would be great.
The men have been replacing the drainage channel of the silage pit. Silage is later this year. Typical the year there is no Highland Show and we would not have had to come home early from the party!
The last three weeks Andrew’s cousin Jamie has been working at Glenkilrie. He is currently studying agriculture at SAC, Craibstone, Aberdeen. Keen to work Jamie has been a great help.
