Mountain hares, also known as blue hares or in winter white hares, can at times be seen at Glenkilrie. In mild winters they are more obvious than ever. This is because in the winter their brown coat moults into a white pelage. Perfect for protection from predators if there is plenty snow, however they stick out like a sore thumb when conditions are mild and there is no snow on the ground.
